ARRL Field Day is a worldwide amateur radio emergency-preparedness exercise held every year on the fourth full weekend in June. Clubs and operators set up temporary stations — often on emergency or portable power — and make as many contacts as possible over a 24-hour period, practicing the skills needed to operate under real emergency conditions. It’s equal parts training exercise, public demonstration, and social gathering, and it’s one of HOTARC’s favorite events of the year.
Where We Operate
HOTARC’s usual Field Day site is Hewitt Park, with Warren Park serving as our backup location. Setup typically includes multiple stations, antennas, and shelters, all coordinated by club volunteers.
Field Day Archive
HOTARC has participated in Field Day for many years. Our archive includes reports, photos, and site layouts from past events dating back to the late 1990s — most held at Hewitt Park, with a few years at Warren Park (2013 and 2014). Over the years the club has also produced its own Public Service Announcements (PSAs), providing MP3 files to local broadcast radio stations that aired them at no cost. Generic versions were shared freely for other clubs to adapt.
Want to join us for the next Field Day? Everyone is welcome — licensed or not. Watch the Events page and the club net for dates and details, or contact us to get involved.
